Meeting Minutes
Participants: Bill Arick, Jon Dunham, Mariana Nieto, Chris Ostrander, Matthew Paul, Justin Shiney, Gary Webber.
I. Presentation from Justin Shiney, owner of River Rat Print and Skate, and president of the Lawrence Skate Association: Shiney stated he was interested in the Neighborhood Association and how it operated. He described a proposal he has made to donate a vertical ramp to the Centennial Skate Park. Life expectancy of the ramp is approximately 10 years. He also described his support of the skate park. Members thanked him for his support of Centennial and the skate park.
II. Approve minutes of spring meeting, May 23, 2022: approved by acclamation.
III. Treasurer’s Report, Arick: Arick reported no changes from previous quarter report. $1179.61 in our bank account.
IV. Old Business, Webber
1. LAN update:
i. May: Harrod selected as representative to the Land Development Code Update Steering Committee. Webber reported on traffic safety in Sunset Hill near two schools.
ii. June: Discussion of low-income housing near Billings and K-10. Discussion of proposed city operations campus. Discussion of failed proposal for coffee shop on 23rd.
iii. July: Presentation: Kate Dinneen, CERT Coordinator, Douglas County Emergency Management, regarding organizing neighborhoods to assist during disasters. Presentation: Nicholas Ward, Tenants to Homeowners (TTH), regarding current programs. Discussion of proposed closure of Prairie Park Nature Center.
V. New Business
1. Plan for Picnic on September 17: Webber reviewed current plans. Webber will bring dishes, drinks, and utensils. Paul will bring entrée for 30 from Biggs Barbecue.
2. Discussion of potential new and returning EC members for 2023: Webber encouraged members to recruit new members to the EC.
3. Discussion of Neighborhood Traffic Management Program application: Webber reported a recent accident on Crestline has stirred the neighbors to action. A letter will be written and circulated for signature. Webber hopes to include it on the SHNA application. Mike Malone has volunteered to join the application subcommittee.
4. Discussion of proposed development
i. Starbucks (6th & Crestline): Dunham noted this could create problems for Crestline.
ii. Little Caesars (3025 W. 6th): No comments.
iii. Christ Community Church multifamily housing development (1100 Kasold Drive): Paul stated that he called the church, and they want to rezone before selling to a developer.
iv. Centennial Skate Park Vertical Ramp (see item I above)
VI. New agenda items from participants: none offered
VII. Set date and time for fall meeting in November: EC agreed to meet on November 14.
