Meeting Minutes
I. Participants: Bill Arick, Mariana Nieto, Matthew Paul, Gary Webber, John White
II. Approve minutes of fall meeting, November 14, 2022: Minutes approved by acclamation.
III. Treasurer’s Report, Arick: $946.07 – 1 membership 2 checks balance as of 2/27/23 $736.88
IV. Old Business, Webber
1. LAN update (Webber):
i. November: LAN received presentations by Chris Sanders, Amanda Unruh & Greg Huebner of the Hillcrest NA to discuss problems some property owners are experiencing with fire and police protection and ask for LAN’s support. Old West Lawrence Association and Oread Residents Association stated that the development at Mississippi and 11th is concerning to both NAs, particularly regarding parking and traffic.
ii. December: Received a report on the LAN listserve from Gary Webber. Holli Joyce is the 2023 Chair; all other current officers will continue unchanged.
iii. January: Discussed city funding for Neighborhood Associations and school budget negotiations.

V. New Business
1. Print, stuff, and mail Annual Meeting invitation/renewal notice – 120 invitations were processed during the meeting.
2. Plan for Annual Meeting:
i. 24th April 7:00 to 8:00, West Junior High Cafeteria.
ii. Terese Winters from Lawrence Public Library has asked to speak about their services. 10 minutes plus questions.
iii. Other speaker options discussed, none suggested.
iv. Update on 2022-2023 Executive Committee and SHNA activities.
v. Election of 2 new Executive Committee members.
3. Discussed new officer slate and 2 new EC members to replace Merrill and Heter. Webber reported we have no current nominees, so he will be asking for nominations from the Annual Meeting participants. The Executive Committee can function with vacancies, if we have the majority of 9, or 5 present for meetings.
4. Discussed September Potluck: Attendance was low in 2022. Nieto suggested we invite members and request that they RSVP. This allows us to predict attendance and plan our food purchase. Invitations will be emailed.
5. Discuss Business membership drive:
i. Arick has volunteered to help, Webber will participate, and Paul may be able to help if his time allows.
ii. Arick suggested we offer businesses insert in New Resident Packet.
iii. Webber will organize and provide literature.
VI. New agenda items from participants.
1. Webber proposed that SHNA donate a bus bench in Sunset Hill – Cost & Labor donated by Webber and Farrar as a donation to SHNA. Approved by acclamation.
2. Discussed spring New Member Packet
i. Webber and White will assemble and distribute
ii. Webber will get list of new neighbors from Kimberly Williams, send to White
VII. Set date and time for spring meeting in May (typically 4th Monday) – Meeting set for Tuesday May 23, 2023, at 6:30 PM
VIII. Meeting adjourned by acclamation at 7:30 PM.
