I. Presentation: Teresa Winters, Information Services Librarian, Lawrence Public Library Presentation: Winters described available services and facilities at LPL. They publish Reader Magazine which has an “Event Schedule” for 2023 A Resource Guide is available on the LPL Web Site. Friends of Library raised $22,000 this year. Winter distributed useful literature.

III. Treasurer’s Report (Arick): As of Feb 27, 2023, $736.88 balance plus $295.00 (60 members) Total of $1031.88. (49 households, 7 Landlords, 4 Businesses) Currently working to get more business involved. 57% of members currently paid.
IV. Old Business:
1. Accept minutes of 2021 Annual Meeting. Minutes adopted by member consensus.
2. Neighborhood Issues & Concerns – Common questions
a. Evergy power outages – report an ongoing outage by calling 1-800-544-4857, a technician will respond. Report an interruption by calling 1-800-383-1183, numerous complaints will prompt an investigation.
b. Cars speeding on streets, other traffic safety issues – use online traffic safety reporting tool, https://lawrenceks.org/traffic-safety/
c. Noise – contact Lawrence Police Dept. non-emergency dispatch – (785) 832-7509
d. Drug or suspicious residences – contact Lawrence Police Dept. non-emergency dispatch – (785) 832-7509
e. Code violations, potholes, missing street signs – request a city service from the city web page – https://lawrenceks.org/request-services/ This is a change from “See, Click, Fix” which has been eliminated.
f. Loose or captured animal, dog waste issues – call non-emergency dispatch and request to speak to an Animal Control officer – (785) 832-7509

V. New Business:
1. Summary of SHNA Executive Committee actions in 2022:
a. Presented 10 Applause Awards and 2 honorable mentions
b. Published SHNA quarterly newsletter
c. Volunteers cleaned Centennial Park and Ludlam Park 3 times (Farrar report). The next cleanups are Jul 22nd 9:00 and Oct 21st 1:00. Anyone interested in participating in the park cleanup should email president@sunsethillna.org
d. Donated $50 each to Sunset Hill Elementary and West Middle School gardens
e. Worked with Municipal Services & Operations to advocate for street maintenance and traffic safety
f. Met in special meeting to discuss and vote on request to oppose rezoning of property at 13th and Kasold; motion to oppose rezoning failed
g. Hand-delivered 28 “Welcome Neighbor” packets to new property owners
h. Attended monthly Lawrence Association of Neighborhoods (LAN) meetings
i. Picked up tree branches from Ludlam Park and consulted with Park & Rec about landscape improvements
2. Election of Nominees to 2023-2024 SHNA Executive Committee:
a. The EC nominates Bill Arick to serve an additional 3-year term (approved)
b. The EC nominates Matthew Paul to serve an additional 3-year term (approved)
c. Nominations from the participants for one 3-year term for an open position: David Mucci – Approved
d. Nominations from the participants for one 1-year term to replace Dillon Heter who has resigned: James Jordan – Approved
3. New items from the participants:
Sidewalk Maintenance – Hazard Mitigation program is continuing / Safe Routes to Schools Program has been funded for an additional year, and will be building sidewalks on Ousdahl in 2023.
Starbucks at former Cadillac Ranch (Crestline & 6th) – approved by city commission, ongoing
Domino’s Pizza on 6th, site of former Scotch Dry Cleaners –project started but appears inactive.
Speed Bumps – Crestline, Spring Break 2023 data gathered, meeting will occur after correlation/analysis of data
School Parking on Crestline – Police don’t have manpower to enforce, they maintain that this is a school issue
15th & Crestline “Central Station” (Bob Billings & Crestline) July – Bus Route Changes & “Bay” completed, office and Facilities to be completed in October. Webber was on art selection committee, which selected a glass artist from Kansas City.
Green Arrow “yield” turning West on 9th – left turn green is at the very end of the light.
