Once a year the Sunset Hill Neighborhood Association (SHNA) recognizes Sunset Hill residents who have recently enhanced their homes through renovations, landscaping, or other improvements. Congratulations to the 2024 Applause Award winners listed below, and to everyone who worked hard this year to improve their homes and our neighborhood.

Here’s an inspiring home exterior transformation, harmony and positive! We see a lot of neutral home exteriors, so this is a bit of a treat! In a world saturated with basic exteriors, this home dares to be different. Green paired with white trim. A creative hand-made mailbox, stylish house numbers. The house is situated on a corner with a large limestone retaining wall and native landscape. All together a nice, combined effect.
927 Lawrence Avenue
I recently spotted these homeowners out working in the yard. The classic color combination brings a distinct character to their home, defining its details and creating a striking visual contrast. Fresh creamy white painted brick wainscot the double doors and shutters are a nice black accent. The stone lined front bed is colorful and well designed. I can see a substantial retaining wall and super cool patio peeking out from the side yard. The architectural allure of a white house with black trim is undeniably timeless.
1214 Crestline Drive
A stone front patio creates harmony and a beautiful focal point that combined with a curved retaining wall guides visitors to the front door. The patio’s stone walls are softened by lounge chair seating area and plants that are highlighted with a cheerful wreath. The tasteful updates create an attractive front entry. The large tree in the front yard is full of fall color. Welcome home.
2501 W. 9th Terrace and 2509 W. 9th Terrace (neighbors)
A dynamic duo! Both beautiful homes are being recognized for several tasteful updates. Both homes have different shades of gray exterior color and attractive dark front doors, paired with oversized house numbers, new mailboxes and light fixtures, the white windows and trim compliment and harmonize the exterior siding color. The addition of charming chairs at 2501 Yale is inviting and the stone lined landscape at 2509 Yale creates balance and color!
2426 Harvard Road
An orange front door can convey a variety of meanings: energy, adventure, warm and friendly. Attractive modern cedar slat shutters, both the door and shutters blend well with the dark gray house color. A yard full of classic Halloween characters, critters and pumpkins create an overall good-looking happy feeling.
2415 Harvard Road
A new driveway, dark amethyst exterior paint color and beautiful subtle blue front door. The nice modern paint color combination lends a flawless finish and great curb appeal. Complimented by a couple of large creative planters add character and charm.
751 Lawrence Ave
While simple in concept, this design choice has a profound impact, transforming a house into a statement piece within its neighborhood. Sunshine and happiness are positive qualities associated with a yellow front door, an instant mood lifter! Blended with an elegant gray exterior, yellow mailbox, black iron handrails. New windows, shutters and updated light fixture on the front of the garage complete the appeal. This house sits high on the hill with an awesome presence.
803 Schwarz Ave
A variety of remodeling projects enhanced the appearance of this home. A delicious chocolate color exterior, new windows, crisp border with a clean white trim, cedar porch rails with iron balusters, the siding also looks new, new driveway, sidewalk an attractive front door with a touch of seasonal color on the wreath.

So many updates, not sure I will catch them all. Front & garage door, paint, siding, trim, driveway, mailbox, house numbers. A very cool light fixture and landscape! This style of contemporary mid-century ranch house has always been one of my favorite designs. The large dynamic windows located near the roof add architectural detail and plenty of natural light while maintaining privacy. A beautiful earth tone shade of green exterior. The fall leaves and trees add a warm touch. Very nice.
