In attendance Gary Webber (Vice President), Jeanne Pees (President), Clint Idol (Secretary), Joanna Kuczera (Treasurer), Paula Kellogg, Kathy Heppert.

1 new member in January for a total of 98 members. The landlord letter is not a recurring expense.
Old Business
Landlord Letter: The executive committee is folding the landlord letter, stuffing envelopes and putting stamps on them to be mailed.
Sunset Hill Facebook page: Jeanne has contacted at least one member to recruit a manager of the Sunset Hill Facebook page as a past Exec Committee member is no longer running it. The new Facebook manager would not need to be a member of the Exec Committee, but would answer to the President. Clare Doveton has been moderating in the absence of Shannon Spradling, but a permanent moderator may be needed.
Neighborhood Watch: Susie Nightingale has been emailed for an update regarding the (not yet formed) Schwarz road Neighborhood Watch Program.
Applause Awards: Joan Stone has been emailed to see if she will continue to manage the applause awards.
Welcome New Neighbor Packet: Paula Kellogg: we have 14 new neighbors that will receive packets.
Complete Streets needs on 9th east and west of Iowa intersection. Should we partner with Hillcrest neighborhood? Since the last meeting, some sidewalk has been added to the intersection on the northeast corner of the intersection. Gary has spoken with City of Lawrence Engineer, David Cronin as well as the Community Mercantile regarding the missing sidewalks. The Merc is planning a landscaping renovation this summer and expressed interest in completing sidewalks at that time. David Cronin expressed interest in cooperating. Funding is unclear.
Parking meeting with KU and surrounding neighborhoods. Sunset Hill is a possible spill-over.
Curb and Gutters: Mike Perkins has been emailed regarding a location on Orchard Lane west and east of Crestline where attention is needed and Perkins responded that it is on the agenda for the fall.
Sidewalks: Kathy Heppert updates us. Gary Webber presented at a city commission meeting where it seemed that there were three commissioners in favor of not accepting the homeowner responsibility plan as there are still questions of City staff/logistics and also inequity. Sales tax has been suggested again as a possible source of funding. A utility payment has been determined to be against state statute.
Yard Waste: Yard waste bins will soon be available. Pick-up of brown yard-waste bins in Sunset Hill will be on Wednesdays with trash and recycling.
New Business
Nomination of three new members: Marlene Merrill, Jeanne Pees, and Troy Hagen will be leaving the Executive Committee this year. Marlene has agreed to another three-year term. Jeanne is emailing Ryann Galloway and John Taja Jr. Jeanne has also contacted Merill Evans and Mathew Faulk. Craig and Nicki Schwarz, Drew and Becky Pollen are other possible nominations. Gary has contacted others. Cold calling and email follow up suggested as method of recruitment.
Annual Membership Meeting: Agenda is being emailed out, themed “How do we keep our neighborhood safe, sustainable, and beautiful?”
Speakers: Police (Neighborhood Resource) Officers and Brian Jimenez- Manager of city code inspection program;
Flyers: 700-1000 will be folded and placed in doors. The neighborhood will be divided into sections and the Exec Committee will volunteer for delivery territories. Jeanne will print the flyers.
Orchards Shopping Center: new owner, new properties.
Air BnB, Home Away, and similar businesses offer temporary lodging to travelers, and 2-3 of such properties exist in Sunset Hill. Should they be regulated? Committee agrees to monitor this topic. LAN wants to hear from us.
Traffic Calming on Rockledge: Gary and Clint have both been in contact with David Woosely regarding speed cushions along Rockledge between 6th and 9th. The majority of neighbors in the area were surveyed and they agreed that speed cushions may be needed. Some were aware of accidents in the area that affected pedestrians/cyclists. Application for traffic calming should be completed soon. Projects are ranked by the city rubric and funded according to ranking.
The curb at centennial park is also in need of repair which has been said to be a part of the next mill and overlay project in that area, so this could expedite the traffic calming device, if it were to be installed at the same time. When the Transportation Commission discusses this, a Committee member should go, as well as any vocal neighbors from the area. Meeting adjourned at 6:16
